Common Uses
Diane is an antiandrogen. It is used as oral contraception for women, but may be used in treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome, acne and mild forms of hirsutism.
How to Take
Before you start taking any new medicine, please consult a doctor. According to a wide specter of use, this medicine should be prescribed personally. As a hormonal contraceptive it is used on the first day of your cycle, the first day of menstrual bleeding. Take a tablet marked with that day of the week. Then follow the days in order.
Warning and Precautions
Diane is not recommended for women over 35 years who smoke because it increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. If you are 35 or older, and you smoke, you need to quit smoking for safe use the birth control pills.
The influence of antibiotics on birth control pills may be overstated. But some antibiotics decrease the efficiency of Diane.
If you are older than age 50 and taking Diane, and you want to stop oral contraceptive use. Ask your doctor how you can determine menopause and what alternatives contraception exists.
Important
If you have just had a baby, your doctor may tell you to wait until after your first normal period before you start taking Diane. Sometimes it is possible to start sooner. Your doctor will advise you.
Missed Dose
If your doctor gave you strict instructions not to miss dose and if you have missed one, take the missed dose as soon as you have remembered. If it is time for your next dose, skip it and continue taking you medicine regularly. Do not double the medicine. It can cause severe side effects.
Overdose
Almost any medicine taken in excess doses without consultation with your doctor can cause an overdose. Mild symptoms of an overdose may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea. If you suspect an overdose, contact your emergency room immediately.
Storage
Diane should be stored at room temperature in a container it comes in. Protect it from heat, sun light and moisture. Do not store the medication in the bathroom. Keep it away from pets and children.
Possible Side Effects
Any medicine can cause side effects. If the side effects occur, seek medical attention or consult your doctor. Anyway, such common side effects may bother you during the first months: breast tenderness, pain and secretion, headache, changes in sexual drive, depressive moods, nausea, vomiting and feeling sick, changes in vaginal secretion, contact lens intolerance. These side effects should pass with the time. Seek medical attention if any of these side effects occur: allergic reaction, various skin reactions.
